We’ve all been there, sat at our desk scrabbling around for something to say on social media. With the tumble weeds blowing past, and an eerie silence…
But what do you say when you don’t know what to say? Worse still, what do you video when you don’t know what to video?
It can be daunting, it can make you feel like you’re failing, it can even instill a sense of panic! It is the number one challenge that most of my clients say they struggle with on a day-to-day basis regarding social media. However, it needn’t be this way! Many creative blockages suffered by business owners or managers are simply down to mindset; that what they do on a daily basis isn’t interesting to others, when in fact, in most cases, it absolutely is!
We all know that most people are:
- inherently nosey
- curious
- keen to learn
- keen to share
- love to be entertained
- keen to feel a sense of inclusion (now more than ever)
- like new things and ideas
- have problems that need solving
- love a routine
- need a good giggle (again, now more than ever)!
Look again at that list… what you have there is a basic structure for a content plan. A fully fledged content plan spans the year, every social and digital platform for your business, every paid post or advert, your blog posts and case studies, maybe emailers too. But if you don’t know where to start at all, then this is a really good starter for ten, and there happen to be ten ideas to elaborate on here. To transform those ideas into some actual content, let’s do this:
- inherently nosey = share an insight into your day, this could be a clip of you doing your job, photo of you on a video call
- curious = tell a little about how or why you got into what you do
- keen to learn = share a ‘How To’ post or video
- keen to share = create a list of helpful tips you’ve learned or a great recommendation
- love to be entertained = get you or your team to do something just for fun
- keen to feel a sense of inclusion = create a Group to help support your community of followers
- like new things and ideas = showcase your products, services or opinions
- have problems that need solving = tell more about how you can help provide a solution to your audience or your local community
- love a routine = pick a day of the week each week to publish a thing; top tip Tuesday, fun Friday etc
- need a good giggle = whatever made you laugh online this week, share it
Once you’ve made these relevant to your own business and drafted them up, taken or sourced a suitable image or video to go with them, you have a great set of content that you can tweak each week or month with fresh ideas. Try not to be too repetitive or copy others too much and above all be authentic to yourself and your business objectives.
Whether you have a team of people to help you publish content or it’s all up to you, you need never be stuck for something to say, and if you are, get in touch and we can help.
